Pumpkin Time!!

The kiddos were super excited when they finally got to decorate their pumpkins they picked out at the pumpkin patch a couple weekends earlier. Mama decided that it wouldn't be as messy this year if only her & daddy carved, & Boston & Brooklyn colored their pumpkins instead... much less of a clean-up :)

Brooklyn chose to color her little orange pumpkin, but kinda lost interest & wanted to watch what daddy was doing instead.

Brooklyn's finished pumpkin:

Boston enjoyed coloring his big white pumpkin until it was completely covered!

Boston's finished pumpkin:

Mama carved the smaller white pumpkin to have a bat on one side for Boston, & a flower on the other side for Brooklyn. Mama is not a good carver... maybe she should have colored instead of carved too! :)

Daddy made a great Jack-o-lantern face that made the kiddos laugh that a face would look so silly!

Unfortunately, we left the pumpkins on the kitchen table & forgot about our dog Bruin, who smelled the yummy pumpkin guts & couldn't stop herself from tasting daddy's jack-o-lantern. Whoops!

Halloween 2011

For the last two months Boston was unmistakeably, absolutely, positively, definitely sure that he wanted to be the X-men, Wolverine, for Halloween. But in the beginning of October he changed his mind to be the superhero, Flash! Brooklyn on the other hand, could never make up her mind between a princess or butterfly - so mama made the decision for her... Red Riding Hood! No, it had nothing to do with either of her choices, but mama was determined to keep Brooklyn warm during the frigid Halloween weather we always have in Laramie! But mama didn't have the heart to tell Brooklyn right away, I figured when she saw the costume she'd warm up to the idea :)

I ordered the costumes online & we received them in the mail two weeks before Halloween, great timing. Boston pulled his costume out & was overwhelmed with excitement... Brooklyn however, pulled out from the box an "adult" red-riding hood! Mama & Daddy were definitely not letting her wear the skimpy outfit (& there's no way mama was going to fit it either) so we returned the costume, only to learn that the child costume we wanted had been discontinued & the company couldn't get it from any vendors - Brooklyn was back at square one :( Luckily though, we have a wonderful grandma that sews beautifully and came to our rescue to make Brooklyn the perfect costume - thanks Grandma Lynda!!

Boston as "the Flash"! He liked being the Flash so he could pretend to be the fastest boy to run around the block & get candy before you can blink!!

Brooklyn as Little Red Riding Hood - when she saw the completed costume she fell in love right away, but I did hear her call herself 'princess riding hood' a couple times!

Brooklyn carried a 'basket full of goodies' & I made Boston a red bag with a yellow lightning bolt to match their costumes. We also went trick-or-treating downtown the Saturday before Halloween & saw cousin Alex dressed as a pirate! Arrr Maties!

Happy Halloween!

"Little Man" - growing up so fast!

Holy Cow!! We cannot believe Boston is already 4-years-old!! Where does the time go? People always tell us that kids grow up faster than you think, boy are they right!

Boston has been such a blessing in our lives, we definitely couldn't imagine it any other way... nor would we want it any different. He fills each day with his quick-witted spunk & charm, & he's so thoughtful to give compliments to other people & make them feel happy too. Being the oldest at daycare, he's a huge helper with the smaller kiddos- he kinda acts like he's a super hero keeping them safe & entertained :) He's also a big helper at home for mom & dad; he definitely compliments our family unit.

Boston wanted to take a treat to daycare for his birthday. Since Halloween is a nearby holiday, he decided on spooky cupcakes :)

His favorite things right now are any superhero and transformers - he liked the robots on his cake to protect it from little sister fingers that might try to steal a taste!

Boston was so excited to have a smaller party with family at home, but he began to get worried during dinner & said, "mom, nobody's coming to my party." Poor guy, I had to reassure him that people were going to come celebrate with him after dinner, & his smile returned when he heard knocks at the door!

Opening presents was a blast! Even cousin Alex got to stay a bit longer & play!!

Our "little man" - it's beyond me how a sweet baby could become a handsome stud muffin so quickly. We are so proud of him & wish him many more Happy Birthdays!! We love you Boston :)

Great Adventure

We made a trip to Ft. Collins this weekend to celebrate the fall season & an early birthday for Boston. G-ma Lynn & Pop Pop were in town too to get their car serviced, so we kidnapped them & went to a corn maze & pumpkin patch since none of us had ever been to one before.

In the corn maze there were a few 'haunted' parts but the kiddos weren't scared at all! We explained that the scarecrows weren't bad guys but were actually there to scare away crows from eating the corn, & the graveyard scene (which was kinda creepy) was just a place where bones were resting. Brooklyn decided that the bones were in jail behind the iron fence because they were in trouble for not wearing clothes!

The kiddos were great explorers & led us the whole way, we did hit a few dead ends, but they kept themselves entertained by pulling kernels off the cobs & throwing them at Pop Pop! We weren't in the maze for too long (thank goodness since it covered ten acres)& I was glad that the kiddos didn't get tired or lose enthusiasm; but when we emerged from the multitude of corn rows Boston said "whew - that was a great adventure!"

There was also a petting zoo & the kiddos got to pet calves, piglets, llamas, & ponies. When we went to the pumpkin patch, it wasn't much of a 'patch' anymore. I was disappointed that it was pretty picked over & I didn't get the pictures I was hoping for, but the kiddos had fun trying to use their huge muscles & see who could lift the biggest pumpkin!

They also got to play in a big bouncy castle & maze! It was hilarious watching the kiddos help each other make their way through the bouncy obstacles - they got a little topsy-turvy in there, so I was glad they could fall without getting any injuries!

The kiddos picked some pumpkins to bring home - Brooklyn picked a teeny-tiny orange pumpkin & a big white one; Boston liked the pumpkin he picked because it didn't have a 'hat' (stem). Next up for the adventure list - carving pumpkins!

Winter's Coming!

The first snow of the season! We're definitely excited for the snow this year so we can go sledding and build snowmen, but not quite ready for the cold!

If you look really close - Brooklyn is holding a snowball, & yes, she was tasting it!
Boston just liked throwing snowballs at everyone!

We even built a great big snowman - but right before bedtime we looked out the window & somebody had purposely knocked the head off & smashed the rest of the body - not cool.

Just sharing some pics...

We spent a day playing with grandparents at Papa's company picnic. We went fishing in the morning... there's nothing better than fishing & eating donuts! They searched for quarters in the hay - which they cashed in for toys at the dollar store later :) Played on the swings Boston would sit on top of a huge rock for minutes on end & wait for a friend to walk by so he could spray them with his new squirt gun! Brooklyn enjoyed the sno cones & cotton candy :) Boston helped Brooklyn climb on the huge tires... & played king of the hay bales with a friend They even did the potato sack races!
Take a peek at the video...
